1930's Air Mail from Finland to Great Britain

An air mail cover from Finland to Liverpool dated 6.9.1938. This is a First Day Cover and probably a philatelic product. The stamp series celebrating the 300th anniversary of the postal service is on the cover in it's entirety (four stamps). 

The route would have been by air Helsinki -> Stockholm -> Malmö -> Amsterdam -> London. And finally from London to Liverpool by rail. Still most of the journey by air. Letter rate to Great Britain was 3,50 marks between 1.11.1936 - 30.9.1942. Air mail surcharge was two marks for each 20 grams between 1.4.1928 and 30.9.1942. As is common with these kinds of philatelic products, the letter was overpaid by 1,75 marks. On the reverse side the recipient (most probably a collector of philately) of the letter has marked the arrival date (8.9.1938) with a self-made cancellation.

A registered air mail cover from Kuopio to Sutton Coldfield (nowadays a suburb of Birmingham) dated 2.11.1935. The route would have been by rail Kuopio -> Helsinki, by air Helsinki -> Turku -> Stockholm, by rail Stockholm -> Malmö, by air Malmö -> Amsterdam -> London, by rail London -> Sutton Coldfield. Letter rate was two marks between 1.12.1931 and 30.10.1936. Air mail surcharge for each 20 grams was two marks between 1.4.1928 and 30.9.1942. Registration fee was 2,50 marks between 1.12.1931 and 31.8.1942. Adding that up makes (2+2+2,50) 6,50 marks for the lowest weight class (0-20 grams) registered air mail letter and that matches the value of the stamps used making this a correctly rated cover.

The Red Cross stamps series (three stamps all on display on the cover) was issued in January of 1935. The yellow 1,25 marks M1930 definitive series stamp was issued in 1932 and originally intended for domestic postcard use but used here for a convenient rate filler. There is a smudgy arrival date on the back side of the cover (early morning 5.11.1935) giving the letter a rather long five day journey.
