Lappeenranta

Uus-Lavola
A rather modern city quarter of the Lappeenranta city established in the 1940's. Uus-Lavola is located a couple of kilometres west of the Lappeenranta city centre just south of Sammonlahti city quarter. The city quarter boasts modern architectural design and has quickly risen in popularity already housing around 10.000 inhabitants in 2025. The population was significantly lower when the below letter was sent in the late 1960's. Postal services in the city quarter were established in 1.3.1948 and the "Uus-Lavola" cancellation was used only until 1.1.1972 when the city's postal routes were re-organized and Uus-Lavola became simply "Lappeenranta 80".
The below registered letter was sent from Uus-Lavola to Helsinki in 20.11.1968 arriving the next day (Helsinki cancellation on the reverse side). The definitive stamps are nicely and clearly cancelled with the Uus-Lavola cancellation. The 0,65 marks stamp is of the fluorescent paper variety and the 0,50 stamp is mute; it's paper is neither phosphorous nor fluorescent.
Here is a Google Maps link of the city quarter.
